HERE BEGINNETH THE WINTER VOLUME OF THE BREVIARY

(From Vespers until None on Christmas Eve inclusive, the Antiphon Alma Redemptoris Mater is said with the V. Angelus and Collect Gratiam.)

NOTE :

  1. Throughout Advent at Divine Service from the Proper of the Season the Altar is not decorated with flowers and the Organ is silent.

  2. At Matins from the Proper of the Season the Te Deum is omitted and in its place is substituted a Ninth or Third Respond.

  3. Throughout Advent at the Ferial Office, (a) the Second Schema of Lauds is said; (b) the Ant. on Bened. and Ant. on Magnif. are proper each day; (c) the Ferial Preces are said kneeling at every Hour; (d) at Prime the IV Psalm is added as noted in the Psalter, and the V. Qui venturus es is said every day except the 8th of December and through the Octave (not, however, on the Sunday within the Octave); (e) the Invitatory, Hymn and Collect, and at the Hours the Antiphons to the Psalms are taken from the preceding Sunday, unless otherwise noted.

  4. The Suffrage of the Saints is omitted henceforth until the Octave of the Epiphany.
