Throughout Lent, at the Office of the Season (except for the 4th Sunday in Lent), the Altar is not decorated with flowers, and the Organ is not played.

Throughout Lent, at the Ferial Office, (a) Antiphons on the Benedíctus and Magníficat with their daily Collects are proper; (b) the Ferial Preces are said kneeling at all the Hours; (c) at Prime, the 4th Psalm is said as noted in the Psalter.

The following day, Ash Wednesday, is a privileged greater Feria, on which no feast may be kept; I and II Class Doubles are transferred, other Feasts commemorated according as the Rubrics permit; but the subsequent Ferias, until the Saturday after Passion Sunday inclusive, are unprivileged greater Ferias, which permit the keeping of all Feasts except Simples, with Commemoration of the Feria, but of Simples, a Commemoration is made in the ferial Office.
