The Office begins at Matins, and is of Feria (with Lauds 2, the ferial Preces, etc., ) except the Lessons, as below, and the Responds, which are said of the current Feria, as in the Proper of the Season, and the Collect, as follows :

Deus, qui virginálem aulam beátæ Maríæ, in qua habitáres, elígere dignátus es : da, quæsumus ; ut, sua nos defensióne munítos, jucúndos fácias suæ interésse festivitáti : Qui vivis et regnas.
Let us pray.
O God, who didst vouchsafe to choose the Virgin womb of blessed Mary wherein to make thy dwelling-place : grant, we beseech thee ; that we, being defended by her protection, may of thee be enabled to attain with gladness to her coming festival.  Who livest and reignest with the Father.

At that time : It came to pass as Jesus spake, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him : Blessed is the womb that bare thee.  And so on, and that which followeth.

Cum audíeris mulíerem illam dicéntem : Beátus venter qui te portávit, et úbera quæ tu suxísti ; deínde Dóminum respondéntem : Quinímmo beáti qui áudiunt verbum Dei et custódiunt illud ; ea senténtia dictum exístima, non quod Matrem neglígeret, sed nihil ei utilitátis matris nomen allatúrum osténderet, nisi bonitáte et fide præstáret.  Quod si Maríæ nihil, sine virtúte, matérna cáritas erat profutúra ; longe minus nobis patris, fratris, matris, fílii bónitas, nisi áliquid nostrum afferámus.

When you give ear to the saying of that woman : Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked : and to the Lord's reply : Yea, rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God and keep it : think not that he made this observation as slighting his Mother, but as wishing to shew that it would profit her nothing to be called his Mother, unless she excelled in goodness and faith.  Now, if a mother's love would avail Mary nothing without virtue, much less will it avail us to be a good father, brother, mother, or son, unless we are good in ourselves.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.

Lesson ii

In nullo namque álio, nisi in solis sui ipsíus virtútibus, post divínam grátiam, de salúte cuípiam sperándum est.  Nam, si id profutúrum erat Christus secúndum carnem ; profuísset civitáti, in qua natus est ; profuísset frátribus.  Atqui, dum fratres rerum suárum curam habuérunt, nihil eis propinquitátis nomen prófuit, sed cum réliquo mundo damnáti erant.

For indeed, salvation for anyone, apart from the divine grace, is to be hoped for in nothing else but his own virtues.  For if her kinship in itself could have profited Mary, it would also have profited the Jews, for Christ was their kinsman according to the flesh ; it would have profited the city in which he was born ; it would have profited his brethren.  Yet as long as his brethren cared only for their own interests, their relationship to Christ profited them nothing, but they were condemned with the rest of the world.

Lesson iii

Tunc autem admiratióni esse cœpérunt, quando própria claruérunt virtúte.  Pátria vero nihil inde consecúta cécidit, et incéndio absúmpta est ; concíves mísere interémpti periére ; consanguínei secúndum carnem nil ad salútem lucráti sunt, deficiénte virtútis patrocínio.  Verum Apóstoli ante omnes claríssimi evasérunt, cum se ad veram et expeténdam ejus familiaritátem consuetudinémque per obediéntiam contulérunt.  Hunc intellígimus, fide semper nobis opus esse, et vita quæ virtútibus lúceat : hæc dumtáxat salvos nos fácere póterit.

Then only did they begin to be worthy of admiration, when they shone by their own virtue.  His native land, indeed, having gained nothing from its own connection with him, fell and was burnt by fire ; his fellow-citizens were put to death and perished miserably ; his kindred according to the flesh gained nothing towards their salvation ; insofar as all these lacked the protection of virtue.  But of them all, the Apostles became the most renowned, since by obedience they joined themselves to him in a right and desirable friendship and companionship.  From this we learn, that we always have need of faith, and a life shining with virtues ; since this alone will have power to save us.

Lauds

And at Lauds is made Commemoration of St. Eusebius, Confessor :

Ant:  Euge, serve bone et fidélis, quia in pauca fuísti fidélis, supra multa te constítuam, intra in gáudium Dómini tui.

Ant:  Well done, good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter into the joy of thy Lord.

V.  Justum dedúxit Dóminus per vias rectas.
R.  Et osténdit illi regnum Dei.

V.  The Lord guided the righteous in right paths.
R.  And shewed him the kingdom of God.

Oremus.
Deus, qui nos beáti Eusébii Confessóris tui ánnua solemnitáte lætíficas : concéde propítius ; ut, cujus natalítia cólimus, per ejus ad te exémpla gradiámur.  (Per Dóminum.)

Let us pray.
O God, who makest us glad with the yearly feast of thy Confessor Saint Eusebius : mercifully grant that as we now observe his heavenly birthday ; so we may follow him all virtuous and godly living.  (Through.)

Defend us, O Lord, we beseech thee, from all dangers both of body and soul : and at the intercession of blessed Joseph, of thy holy Apostles Peter and Paul, [of blessed N.,] and of all thy Saints, grant us thy saving health and peace ; that being defended from all adversities and all false doctrines, thy Church may serve thee in freedom and quietness.  Through.
