We beseech thee, O Almighty God, that blessed Andrew thine Apostle, for whose feast we are preparing, may implore for us thine aid, that, our offences being pardoned, we may also be saved from all dangers.  Through.

At Ferial Vespers on November 28th is made Commemoration of St. Saturninus, M., as follows:

Ant:  Iste Sanctus pro lege Dei sui certávit usque ad mortem, et a verbis impiórum non tímuit ; fundátus enim erat supra firmam petram.

Ant:  This is a Saint who strove for the truth, even unto death, and feared not the words of sinful men, forasmuch as he was founded upon a sure foundation.

V.  Glória et honóre coronásti eum, Dómine.
R.  Et constituísti eum super ópera mánuum tuárum.

V.  Thou hast crowned him with glory and worship, O Lord.
R.  And hast made him to have dominion of the works of thy hands.

Oremus.
Deus, qui nos beáti Saturníni Mártyris tui concédis natalítio pérfrui : ejus nos tríbue méritis adjuvári.  (Per Dóminum.)

Let us pray.
O God, who vouchsafest unto us to rejoice in the heavenly birthday of thy blessed Martyr Saturninus : grant, we pray thee ; that we may feel the effectual succour of his merits.  (Through.)

In illo témpore : Stabat Joánnes et ex discípulis ejus duo.  Et respíciens Jesum ambulántem, dicit : Ecce Agnus Dei.  Et réliqua.

At that time : John stood, and two of his disciples ; and looking on Jesus as he walked, he saith : Behold the Lamb of God.  And so on, and that which followeth.

Quia talis erat Joánnes amícus sponsi, non quærébat glóriam suam, sed testimónium perhibébat veritáti ; numquid vóluit apud se remanére discípulos suos, ut non sequeréntur Dóminum?  Magis ipse osténdit discípulis suis quem sequeréntur.  Habébant enim illum tamquam Agnum ; et ille : Quid me atténditis? ego non sum Agnus ; ecce Agnus Dei.  De quo et supérius díxerat : Ecce Agnus Dei.  Et quid nobis prodest Agnus Dei?  Ecce, ait, qui tollit peccátum mundi.  Secúti sunt illum, hoc audíto, duo qui erant cum Joánne.

Since John was the friend of the Bridegroom, he sought not his own glory, but bare witness to the truth.  Would he that his disciples should remain with him rather than that they should follow the Lord?  Nay, he shewed his disciples whom they should follow.  They thought that he himself was the Lamb ; but he saith : Why wait ye on me?  I am not the Lamb.  Behold the Lamb of God!  This was he of whom he had already said above : Behold the Lamb of God!  And what use to us is the Lamb of God?  Behold the Lamb of God, saith John, which taketh away the sin of the world.  And the two disciples who were with John heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.

V.  Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
R.  Deo grátias.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
R.  Thanks be to God.

Videámus sequéntia.  Ecce Agnus Dei.  Hoc Joánnes.  Et audiérunt eum duo discípuli loquéntem, et secúti sunt Jesum.  Non sic illum sequebántur, quasi jam ut inhærérent illi ; nam maniféstum est, quando illi inhæsérunt, quia de navi eos vocávit.  In his enim duóbus erat Andréas, sicut modo audístis, Andréas autem frater Petri erat ; et nóvimus in Evangélio quod Petrum et Andréam Dóminus de navi vocávit dicens : Veníte post me, et fáciam vos piscatóres hóminum.  Et ex illo jam inhæsérunt illi, ut non recéderent.

Let us see what then came to pass.  John stood, and two of his disciples ; and looking on Jesus as he walked, he saith : Behold the Lamb of God!  And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.  They followed him, not yet to cleave unto him, for it is manifest that they clave unto Jesus only in the time whereinafter he had called them out of the ship.  Thus it is added :  One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.  Matthew describeth how they were finally called, thus : Jesus walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea, for they were fishers ; and he saith unto them : Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men ; and they straightway left their nets and followed him.  And from his latter time they clave unto him, so as never to depart.

Modo ergo quod illum sequúntur isti duo, non quasi non recessúri sequúntur ; sed vidére voluérunt ubi habitáret, et fácere quod scriptum est : Limen ostiórum ejus éxterat pes tuus : surge ad illum veníre assídue, et erudíre præcéptis ejus.  Osténdit eis ille ubi manéret ; venérunt, et fuérunt cum illo.  Quam beátum diem duxérunt, quam beátam noctem!  Quis est, qui nobis dicat quæ audíerint illi a Dómino?  Ædificémus et nosmetípsi in corde nostro, et faciámus domum, quo véniat ille et dóceat nos et colloquátur nobis.

So at this time these two are said to have followed him, but not in the sense of cleaving unto him as though never to depart, but in the sense of drawing nigh unto him, in obedience to the words in Ecclesiasticus : If thou see a man of understanding, get thee betimes unto him, and let thy foot wear the steps of his doors.  He saith unto them : Come and see : so they came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day.  O what a blessed day they passed!  And since it was about the tenth hour, what a blessed night!  Who shall tell what they heard from the Lord?  O let us make a house in our heart whither he may come, and there teach us, and abide with us.
