The Period of the Great O Antiphons

Sometimes called Sapientiatide

Sapientiatide is named after the first of the Great O Antiphons, O Sapientia, sung at Vespers on December 17.  The Advent rubrics change slightly at this time, as follows :

The Rubrics

Beginning with December 17, no Octave may be kept.  If any be in process of observance, it is terminated with the Office of December 16.  Unless a Feast occur, the ferial Office is said of the Advent Season in the usual manner, with the Preces at all the Hours.  And on Sundays the Sunday Office is said.

Matins
At Matins, the Lessons and Responds are from the III or IV Week of Advent, as the case may be.

Lauds
At Lauds, the Antiphons to the Psalms are those provided in the Office of the Day, except when the Sunday Office is said.  The Ant. on Bened. is from the III or IV Week of Advent, as the case may be, except for the Ant. proper to December 21 and 23, as specified in the appropriate place.

Prime, Terce, Sext, None
At the Hours, the Psalms are of the day of the week as in the Psalter, but the Antiphons are taken from those used at Lauds, (ie. on Sundays from Sunday Lauds, but on weekdays as in the Office of the Day.)

Vespers
At weekday Vespers, the Psalms with their Antiphons are from the Psalter, as during the rest of Advent, but the Ant. on Mag. is the Great O for that day of the month, as assigned below, which same is said entire before the Canticle, (contrary to the usual custom on Ferias), or is used at Vespers for the Commemoration of Feria on any occurring Feast.  The O Antiphons are always doubled and recited standing.
