Office of the Season from August onwards |
|
NOTE : That by the 1st Sunday of August is to be understood the Sunday nearest August 1st, whether it occur before or after that date, (that is, the Sunday falling after July 28th,) that is to say, if August 1st fall on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday, then the Lord's Day which is given the title 1st Sunday of August is actually the last Sunday in July; but if August 1st fall on Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, the aforesaid first Sunday is actually the first Lord's Day occurring in August. And this method of reckoning the Sundays is followed until and including the Lord's Day which is called the Fifth Sunday of November; for these Sundays are so entitled in order to indicate what Lessons of Holy Scripture and Responds are to be read during this period, as well as the II Nocturn Lessons for Sunday appropriate to the aforesaid Scripture; and therefore the Ant. on Magnif. to be used on Saturdays, which same is appropriate to the occurrent Scripture, is also to be found in this section. When there are less than eleven Sundays after Pentecost before the 1st Sunday of August, then from the aforegoing the overplus is omitted, so as to begin the 1st Sunday of August at the proper time. But the Collect, the III Nocturn Lessons, and likewise the Ant. on Bened. and Mag. are said from Part 2 of the Trinitytide Season, according to the number of Sundays after the Feast of Pentecost, beginning with the 4th Sunday after Pentecost, and ending with the Sunday Next before Advent. However, the Responds for the III Nocturn are said from the current Responds, given in Part I. |
