Fili, accédens ad servitútem Dei sta in justítia et timóre, et præpara ánimam tuam ad tentatiónem.  Déprime cor tuum et sústine, inclína aurem tuam et súscipe verba intelléctus et ne festínes in témpore obductiónis.  Sústine sustentatiónes Dei, conjúngere Deo et sústine, ut crescat in novíssimo vita tua.

My son, if thou come to serve the Lord, stand firm in righteousness and fear, and prepare thy soul for temptation.  Set thine heart lowly and constantly endure ; incline thine ear, and take heed to the word of understanding ; and make not haste in time of trouble.  Bear patiently the trials which God sendeth thee ; cleave unto God, and wait patiently, that thy life may be increased at the last.

V.  Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
R.  Deo grátias.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
R.  Thanks be to God.

R.  Præbe, fili cor mihi, et óculi tui vias meas custódiant : * Ut addátur grátia cápiti tuo.

Whatsoever is brought upon thee take cheerfully ; and be patient when thou art changed to a low estate.  For gold and silver are tried in the fire, and accpetable men in the furnace of adversity.  Believe in God, and he will help thee.  Order thy way aright, and trust in him.  Keep thee in awe of him, and grow old in his service.

Metuéntes Dóminum, sustinéte misericórdiam ejus et non deflectátis ab illo, ne cadátis.  Qui timétis Dóminum, crédite illi, et non evacuábitur merces vestra.  Qui timétis Dóminum, speráte in illum, et in oblectatiónem véniet vobis misericórdia.  Qui timétis Dóminum díligite illum, et illuminabúntur corda vestra.  Respícite, fílii, natiónes hóminum et scitóte quia nullus sperávit in Dómino et confúsus est.  Quis enim permánsit in mandátis ejus et derelíctus est? aut quis invocávit eum, et despéxit illum?

Ye that fear the Lord, wait for his mercy, and go not aside, lest ye fall.  Ye that fear the Lord, believe him, and your reward shall not fail.  Ye that hear the Lord, hope in him, and his mercy shall come joyfully upon you.  Ye that fear the Lord, love him, and your hearts shall be enlightened.  My sons, look at the generations of old, and see, did ever any trust in the Lord, and was confounded? or did any abide in his fear, and was forsaken? or whom did he ever despise that called upon him?

The Office of Matins ends after the Third Respond.  The Te Deum is not said, and Lauds normally follows immediately, beginning with the Opening Versicles.  Otherwise, the Conclusion of Matins is read, according to the Rubrics.
