Noli fácere mala, et non te apprehéndent : discéde ab iníquo, et defícient mala abs te.  Fili, non sémines mala in sulcis injustítiæ et non metes ea in séptuplum.  Noli quærere a dómino ducátum, neque a rege cáthedram honóris.  Non te justífices ante Deum, quóniam ágnitor cordis ipse est et penes regem noli velle vidéri sápiens.

Do not evil, so shall none come unto thee.  Depart from the unjust, and iniquity shall turn away from thee.  My son, sow not evil in the furrows of unrighteousness, and thou shalt not reap the same sevenfold.  Seek not of the lord pre-eminence, neither of the king the seat of honour.  Justify not thyself before God, for he is the Beholder of hearts ; and seek not to seem wise before the king.

V.  Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
R.  Deo grátias.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
R.  Thanks be to God.

R.  Ne derelínquas me, Dómine, pater et dominátor vitæ meæ, ut non córruam in conspéctu adversariórum meórum : * Ne gáudeat de me inimícus meus.
V.  Apprehénde arma et scutum et exsúrge in adjutórium mihi.

R.  Leave me not, O Lord, thou Father and Governor of my whole life, lest I fall before mine adversaries, *  And mine enemy rejoice over me.
V.  Lay hand upon the shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.

Seek ye not to be made a judge, unless thou hast strength to break down iniquity ; lest at any time thou fear the person of the mighty, and lay a stumbling-block in the way of thine uprightness.  Offend not against the multitude of a city, nor cast thyself down among the people, nor bind the one fault upon the other, for in one thou shalt not be unpunished.  Be not faint-hearted in thy soul ; pray, and forget not to give alms.

R.  Magna enim sunt judícia tua, Dómine, et inenarrabília verba tua : * Magnificásti pópulum tuum et honorásti.
V.  Transtulísti illos per Mare Rubrum et transvexísti eos per aquam nímiam.

R.  Great are thy judgments, O Lord, and thy words cannot be expressed. *  For thou dost magnify thy people, and glorify them.
V.  Thou hast brought them through the Red Sea, and led them through much water.

In Feastdays of Simple rank :

And on such Feastdays of Simple rank, the Third Lesson is read according to the Proper.

Proper Third Lesson

Ne dicas : In multitúdine múnerum meórum respíciet Deus et, offerénte me Deo altíssimo, múnera mea suscípiet.  Non irrídeas hóminem in amaritúdine ánimæ ; est enim qui humíliat et exáltat, circumspéctor Deus.  Noli aráre mendácium advérsus fratrem tuum neque in amícum simíliter fácias.  Noli velle mentíri omne mendácium ; assidúitas enim illíus non est bona.  Noli verbósus esse in multitúdine presbyterórum et non íteres verbum in oratióne tua.

Say not : God will look upon the multitude of my oblations, and when I offer to the Most High God, he will accept it.  Laugh no man to scorn in the bitterness of his soul ; for there is One which humbleth and exalteth, even God the Beholder.  Devise not a lie against thy brother ; neither do the like to thy friend.  Use not to make any manner of lie ; for the custom thereof is not good.  Use not many words in a multitude of elders, and make not much repetition when thou prayest.

The Office of Matins ends after the Third Respond.  The Te Deum is not said, and Lauds normally follows immediately, beginning with the Opening Versicles.  Otherwise, the Conclusion of Matins is read, according to the Rubrics.
