Matins

Sálomon autem erat in dicióne sua habens ómnia regna a flúmine terræ Philísthiim usque ad términum Ægypti offeréntium sibi múnera et serviéntium ei cunctis diébus vitæ ejus.  Erat autem cibus Salomónis per dies síngulos trigínta cori símilæ, et sexagínta cori farínæ, decem boves pingues et vigínti boves pascuáles et centum aríetes, excépta venatióne cervórum, capreárum atque bubalórum et ávium altílium.  Ipse enim obtinébat omnem regiónem, quæ erat trans flumen, a Thaphsa usque ad Gazam et cunctos reges illárum regiónum, et habébat pacem ex omni parte in circúitu.

And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life.  And Solomon's provision for one day was thirty measures of fine flour, and threescore measures of meal, ten fat oxen, and twenty oxen out of the pastures, and an hundred sheep, beside harts, and roebucks, and fallowdeer, and fatted fowl.  For he had dominion over all the region on this side the river, from Tiphsah even to Azzah, over all the kings on this side the river: and he had peace on all sides round about him.

V.  Tu autem, Dómine, miserére nobis.
R.  Deo grátias.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
R.  Thanks be to God.

R.  Præparáte corda vestra Dómino, et servíte illi soli : * Et liberábit vos de mánibus inimicórum vestrórum.
V.  Convertímini ad eum in toto corde vestro, et auférte deos aliénos de médio vestri.

R.  Prepare your hearts unto the Lord, and serve him only,  *  And he will deliver you out of the hand of your enemies.
V.  Return unto him with all your hearts, and put away the strange gods from among you.

Habitabátque Juda et Israël absque timóre ullo, unusquísque sub vite sua et sub ficu sua a Dan usque Bersabée cunctis diébus Salomónis.  Et habébat Sálomon quadragínta míllia præsépia equórum currílium et duódecim míllia equéstrium.  Nutriebántque eos supradícti regis præfécti ; sed et necessária mensæ regis Salomónis cum ingénti cura præbébant in témpore suo.  Hórdeum quoque et páleas equórum et jumentórum deferébant in locum, ubi erat rex, juxta constitútum sibi.  Dedit quoque Deus sapiéntiam Salomóni et prudéntiam multam nimis et latitúdinem cordis quasi arénam quæ est in líttore maris.

And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, every man under his vine and under his fig tree, from Dan even to Beersheba, all the days of Solomon.  And Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen.  And those officers provided victual for king Solomon, and for all that came unto king Solomon's table, every man in his month: they lacked nothing.  Barley also and straw for the horses and dromedaries brought they unto the place where the officers were, every man according to his charge.  And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore.

R.  Deus ómnium exaudítor est : ipse misit Angelum suum, et tulit me de óvibus patris mei : * Et unxit me unctióne misericórdiæ suæ.
V.  Dóminus, qui erípuit me de ore leónis, et de manu béstiæ liberávit me.
R.  Et unxit me unctióne misericórdiæ suæ.

R.  God, which heareth all, even he sent his Angel, and took me from keeping my father's sheep, *  Whereupon he anointed me with the anointing of his mercy.
V.  Even the Lord that delivered me out of the mouth of the lion and the paw of the bear.
R.  Whereupon he anointed me with the anointing of his mercy.

In Feastdays of Simple rank :

V.  Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui Sancto.
R.  Et unxit me unctióne misericórdiæ suæ.

V.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.
R.  Whereupon he anointed me with the anointing of his mercy.

And on such Feastdays of Simple rank, the Third Lesson is read according to the Proper.

Proper Third Lesson

Et præcedébat sapiéntia Salomónis sapiéntiam ómnium Orientálium et Ægyptiórum ; et erat sapiéntior cunctis homínibus, sapiéntior Ethan Ezrahíta et Heman et Chalcol et Dorda fíliis Mahol, et erat nominátus in univérsis géntibus per circúitum.  Locútus est quoque Sálomon tria míllia parábolas, et fuérunt cármina ejus quinque et mille.  Et disputávit super lignis a cedro, quæ est in Líbano, usque ad hyssópum quæ egrediétur de paríete ; et disséruit de juméntis et volúcribus et reptílibus et píscibus.  Et veniébant de cunctis pópulis ad audiéndam sapiéntiam Salomónis, et ab univérsis régibus terræ, qui audiébant sapiéntiam ejus.

And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt.  For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about.  And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.  And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes.  And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.

V.  But thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us.
R.  Thanks be to God.

V.  Misit Deus misericórdiam suam et veritátem suam : ánimam meam erípuit de médio catulórum leónum.
R.  Ipse me erípiet de mánibus inimicórum meórum.
V.  Glória Patri, et Fílio, et Spirítui Sancto.
R.  Ipse me erípiet de mánibus inimicórum meórum.

R.  The Lord that delivered me out of the mouth of the lion and the paw of the bear. * He it is who will now deliver me out of the hand of mine enemies.
V.  God hath sent forth his mercy and truth, and delivered my soul from among the lions.
R.  He it is who will now deliver me out of the hand of mine enemies.
V.  Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost.

The Office of Matins ends after the Third Respond.  The Te Deum is not said, and Lauds normally follows immediately, beginning with the Opening Versicles.  Otherwise, the Conclusion of Matins is read, according to the Rubrics.
